Hello all...
I was trying to find out why my 4ktq was overboosting and just found a tear=
in my MC engine's wategate diaphragm last night.
I had another 5kt manifold on hand, but I noticed that the wastegate spring=
, diaphragm (unfortunately also bad) and cap spring perch are different tha=
n on the MC's WG.
The diaphragm looks to have a "double lip" on the outside of it and heavier=
folds around the center. The spring is longer and the cap spring perch do=
es not have the bolt head (the one people modify to make adjustble) showing=
like on the MC. I believe this is an earlier KH wastegate. Can anyone co=
nfirm?
I've already ordered a new diaphragm, but I was wondering if the older KH t=
ype can be used on the MC's just in case I find a "spare" somewhere. Not s=
ure if the inner metal "cup" of the wastegate is the same.
Also... I was reading in the archives that a lister by the name of Sacchell=
e had used the KH spring and cap in his MC engined 5kt and claimed that it =
made his car feel like it had more torque (resulting from different WG spri=
ng rates). He had other mods and such, but I was wondering if anyone else =
had done this test on an otherwise stock MC engine and had felt the same th=
ing.
Any comments? While awaiting a chip and a matching spring, I was just thin=
king that while I'm in there, it'd be easy to switch them...
