MORE on mystery pump

Thanks to all of you who sent info on this auxiliary vacuum pump! Wow!
What a response! In addition to giving instructions for removing the
piston, a couple of you have mentioned that the pump is lubricated
somewhat by oil from the engine, and that part of the problem is crud
buildup in the pump.

So here's another question: One of my Quattro-enabled friends had
suggested I run ATF fluid through my engine to clean it out prior to my
next oil change. He says the ATF is more of a detergent and cleans up the
surfaces very well, and he and some fellow Q-heads use this technique on a
regular basis to keep their engines clean.

Would flushing with ATF help to clean out the auxiliary vacuum pump as
well, do you think?
