It's not much simpler, just different.  The KH uses the MAC-07A ECU
and has a different code-dumping sequence than the later ECUs.  Instead of
flashing lights, the KH ECU uses the tachometer in combination with the
brake pedal to step through diagnostic sequences.  It's just as "full-blown
motronic" (in the sense that it controls fuel, spark and boost) as the
MC ECUs.

At any rate, Audi never called these ECUs "Motronic" because that is
a Bosch trade mark, and these aren't Bosch boxes.  It's Audi's adaptation
of Bosch fuel injection mechanical components with a special ECU from
Hitachi.  It doesn't correspond with any Motronic models from the Bosch
product line.
