I don't know how you'd do this, in fact.... The first time this happened to
me was before I read the TSB. I noticed "sand" in my tank (I thought vandal
and/or sugar). I siphoned all the gasoline out, cleaned the tank, and put
the pump back in. Lasted less than a week. When this happened to my 5ktqw,
it lasted about 20minutes.
Do know that the pump screen is redundant, the pump sits in a sealed
enclosure at the bottom of the tank, which has a screen around it already. I
would have no hesitation cutting the screen off the bottom of any fuel pump
for the audi 5k/200

I think as long as you took some time to clean out
any stuff from in the tank you will be good to leave
the screen on.
