Thermo-time-switch/ cold start valve- poor running

No.  The cold start valve doesn't have a "ground" connection.
Its ground is completed by the switch inside the thermo-time
switch, which is directly to the engine.  Since the cold start
valve gets its power from the same circuit that powers your starter,
once you've stopped cranking there is no chance that it would
activate.

Look at the wiring diagram of your Bentley and this should be
apparent.
