Cheapest Exhaust? 5ktq

What's the reasoning for ruling out a custom exhaust? Local (competent)
custom exhaust shops could very well be the most reasonably priced and
cost effective option you have. I had mine ('87 5ktq) fabbed and
installed by a local shop in Massachusetts, (aluminized, cat-back, with
a single muffler) for $170. Nothing fancy, a bit more grumble/louder,
new mounting donuts, quite nice. That was done about 3 years ago, still
fine, no holes or rattling. (New England winters too.) The exhaust that
it replaced (original stainless one) had lasted for 15+ years.
So of course your expected time of ownership will come into play in
determining if an aluminized system or a stainless steel system is more
cost effective... (Don't forget to include shipping or tax costs when
comparing also.) You may also want to say where you are from, in the
hope that someone can suggest a COMPETENT shop close to you.
