Rear caliper question - Need quick answer!

The spring cover flanges sometimes will not seat correctly. They will get
jammed in the C clip groove before hitting the bottom.
I filed the flanges a bit and bent them inward to clear the C clip groove.
Also, file the C-clip edges to get rid of the "flash" from the punching
operation. The smoother the edge, the easier it will be to slide the
compressed C-clip down the bore and into the groove. My C-clip edge was
mildly rounded when I got done with it.
I used a socket and C -clamp to compress the spring. Just before you bottom
out, make sure the spring cover flanges dont get stuck in the C-clip groove.
Use long thin screwdrivers to guide the flanges.
I pushed down the c-clip into the groove using a bent nail held in a
vicegrip. Bend the nail 90 degrees. You need 3 hands for this as I recall. I
may have used 2 bent nails and a screwdriver to manipulate the C-clip into
the groove. The nails will engage the holes in the C clip.
I practiced on a couple of junk calipers that I got from my local parts guy
until I got it down pat.
It was a bit frustrating, but doable.
