I had my new Michelin Artic Alpin snows mounted on my '92 100S at NTB last =
Saturday. I also specified I wanted a front end alignment done (its been a =
couple of years). Of course they could not do the alignment because both ti=
e rod ends were frozen, and without parts on hand, were worried they may br=
eak one attempting to free it. I checked the tie rod end setup in the garag=
e this evening, and I'm wondering what I need to order parts wise to remedy=
the situation. From what I can see there is the actual tie rod end with a =
retaining ring, then a nut to keep the tie rod end in place, a piece of thr=
eaded rod, another nut and then the actual tie rod, again with a retaining =
ring. Am I to assume that the threaded rod portions that are screwed into t=
he tie rod end and tie rod are the portions seized? If I order a tie rod en=
d, what will I get (places like The Parts Bin sell them for ~$15 a piece)? =
Is it just the end, or does it come with the piece of threaded rod and the =
two nuts? I realize the tie rod ends probably can be freed, but I figure I =
will have them replaced while they are in there (for $30 in parts and the c=
ar just passing 100k, its good insurance). Any BTDT's greatly appreciated.
