went to the rally of the tall pines saturday but alas the audis had bad luc=
k=2E
the only podium contender there seemed to be a 4000 (qualified in 4th ahead=
 of frank sprongl)
whos battery melted after setting a great time on the first stage. frank sp=
rongl (one of audis all time
most successful drivers who retired his s2 last year) showed up in his new =
evo 6. luck wasnt on his
side either as he rolled the car into the second corner... i think he was a=
 little too anxious and not
totally used to that 4 wheel steering. it was however very amusing watching=
 him and his brother
driving the mitsubishi wearing their audi driving suits. one audi 90 retire=
d during the first service area... probably found something expensive wrong=
with the car and scott gardner in his 90tq went off the road half way thro=
ugh the day. there was an audi coupe (s2 conversion? looked like an rs2 int=
ercooler) who failed to finish due to "mechanical problems". i think he fai=
led due to karma... when i asked what engine they were running they rudely =
brushed me off. scott gardners engine was a beautiful 90tq conversion runni=
ng a wr cis setup on a mc. i asked his codriver if it was a wr and he brush=
ed me off at first, i think until the meaning of wr had sunk in. then he gr=
inned and answered "mc" politely :)
the 1000 car parking lot was full of subaru wrxs. id say 1 in 10 was a wrx.=
there were some nice audis there to watch too... a new s4 with a giant spo=
iler looked showroom condition, an a6 4.2, an a8, ur-coupe of some sort, 2 =
mint coupes, a mint b4 90, a b3 audi with s3 badges and a black b3 90 with =
horrible red mud guards and me and my dad in his a6 2.8.
a group of young audi fans were by far the most enthusiastic. they brought =
an audi banner which they hung from a tree into the first corner amongst th=
e hundreds of subaru banners and an audi flag they waved with pride (these =
were the only fans to bring a banner or flag and i doubt i would have seen =
a single subaru flag if they didnt sponser the event). next year i am going=
to try and go to every event and if i can find one ill bring banners too s=
o i can show off my pride too... and maybe in the next few years i will be =
able to make enough money that i can enter a 4000 quattro... (i estimate i =
can run a season on $15 000 including car)
i should have all my pictures developed by tomorrow so ill put them up...

dave from vibrant: sorry i couldnt meet you, didnt want to call ld on my da=
ds cell... maybe some other time
