Was the tire on a wheel?  Or just one of the tens of
thousands of carcasses littering our highways?  I'd
(as I'm sure you will) inspect all the components on
that side carefully.  My "incident"  involved a curb
and pole on the right side resulting in a blown tire.
I installed the donut and drove it home.  About 10
miles in the snow.  It handled terrible.  Almost
undriveable.  My lower control arm took the brunt of
it.  It was bent pretty bad.  I replaced some other
components as a matter of course and later redid the
entire front suspension.
