The synthetic stuff is green. Either is safe for use in older cars,
pre 1990 or thereabouts. Post 1990 cars are probably best off with
synthetic. Audi generally recommends against mixing them, I believe-
but the car certainly won't keel over if you do by accident(unlike
ATF.)
The synthetic simply has longer life, reduces breakdown, and has
extended temperature ranges.
This comes up on a regular basis- probably one of the most common
questions asked about the older cars.
