When Audi switched from a mineral-based hydraulics oil to a synthetic about
a dozen years ago, they kept the parts number for the new oil spec the
same as had been on the old with the apparent expectation that dealers
would have only the synthetic eventually. Audi's announcement on the
switch said the synthetic could be substituted for and mixed with the
mineral in older cars, but the mineral should not be used in the newer
equipment. If you're buying "Pentosin", it should be in the green can with
the red cap and a large-letter red "ll-S" printed on the side.
