4 x 108 wheels on the cheap, part 2

In my garage, the two cars with 4 x 108 wheels aren't Audis, they're Alfas
-- 105/115 series Alfa Romeos have 4 x 108 rims, typically on 14" wheels
with varying widths.

The cheap way to get track-day wheels for Alfas is to use 4-bolt Ford
Mustang wheels, of roughly '80-'87 vintage. I know several people here in
Portland who run such a combo on their Alfas for track days. The wheels are
mostly 15 x 7, the bolt spacing is off by something like 1/10 of a
millimeter, and they're often dumped inexpensively when the Mustang owner
upgrades to 17" rims.

Some notes on fitment: at the rear of the Alfa, the axle hub is too large
for the Mustang wheel's hub, so some folks use 1/4" spacers to get clearance
while others have the wheels machined. I don't know whether a clearance
problem would also exist on Audis, as my own Audis are either 4 x 100 or 5 x
112.

I've seen the wheels in use on more than one car, and you can too, John --
the local Alfa club is having a track day at PIR on Oct. 12. Stop by, or
better yet come join us -- I think it's $80 to participate (unless you drive
an Alfa, in which case we drop the price to get more of our own club members
to participate). For more info, see http://www.alfaclub.org, and look for
the link to Events.
