transmission flush

i manage a transmission shop- we don't do flushes. the flush process
usually moves all the crud from the torque converter (where most of the
fluid is anyway) into the trans, via the filter. the main purpose of
removing the pan and changing the filter is to see (actually, physically
observe) the debris in the trans. if it has an extended drain interval
(i.e., don't know when it got done last). that junk in there tells a
tale, and it may mean the difference between all clear and large bucks.
perhaps a flush and a filter replacement, but that may be impractical
also. the torque converter tends to collect a lot of sediment, and the
centrifugal force tends to keep it there. i know of no manufacturers
that insist on or recommend a flush to service their units. the flush
will not clean the filter- the filters' purpose is to trap the debris.
when was the last time you tried to clean out your engine oil filter by
reverse pressure flushing? how about blowing the dirt out of an air
filter? logic beats hype, every time. on the virus note- web tv may be
ludditical, but no virii worries. it would seem that there a few bugs
out there on the automobile and motorcycle boards i am on right now,
beware, oh my brothers! if it has a .scr or .exe or .var, dump it out.

this i am still alive-m. burkhardt
