Fuel pump re-build kit?

Not absolutely. I have had a pump in my 4kq now for over two years with no
problem that has been disassembled and reassembled. This pump had sat
unused for a while and had seized(not uncommon). I admit to being cheap,
but also couldn't refuse the chalange. It did take me two tries (on
different pumps) to get it apart without ruining the case, but dead pumps
are not hard to find. I have I found a very little corrosion in a tight
tolerance area that I was able to remove and free up the pump. I did need
to put a hose clamp around it in addition to recrimping the end. I
disassembled the prior pump which had made noise for over 100k miles and
since I bought the car, out of curiosity. The brushes had worn over 1/8
inch into the armuture which was showing more insulation than commuter and
the pump hardened ring had worn completely through in one area. The final
thing that took it out of commission what that one of the pump rollers had
got stuck in the gap in the hardened ring and bound up the pump causing it
to shear off the drive flanges.
They can be taken apart and reassembled, but I wouldn't recommend it as
fuel leaks are a bad thing. I might be more tempted to do it again on an
intank pump. I suppose that you could get brushes, but on all the pumps I
have taken apart the armature wears at the same rate as the brushes and I am
sure no other parts are available anywhere.

P.S. Fuel will only burn if mixed with air at a fairly specific ratio, and
there is not enough air to enable it to burn.
as to why the electric motor does not cause fires.
