I was browsing Scott Mockry's site and came across a section under
CIS Fuel Injection Technical Tips, subheading mc2 engine, external
fuel pressure regulator details.
Anyhow, it's something I've passed over for a couple of years, but
read closely because I have a 200q with the exact same symptoms he
described. I hear the fuel pump priming and then hitting the
resistance of the built up pressure. Seems temp dependent, typically
hot. Fuel pump check valve has been replaced. Injectors are known new
by the previous owner. Anyway, this looks like it's it. The regulator
allows bleeding off of fuel when the injection system's heat soaks
and increases in pressure, enough to spray.
