Ok, my METAL radiator.
I had a cracked solder joint and resoldered it today. Was tougher
than I thought and I still have yet to see if it's watertight. If
not, it's out again tomorrow.
You have to wire off the paint first. I found the easiest way is to
heat the surface until you see a paint bubble, then you wire it off.
The hardest part is soldering under the tabs from the core. I think
those are the only questionable areas. One, right by the overflow
tube, needed touch up, so I did it on the car. The other thing is the
overflow bottle tube, one the other side. It's soldered, too. The
solder melts when you heat the tanks, so resolder that. I wired
halfway up the pipe, to allow the solder to climb and make a strong
joint. So far, so good. The joints are very thick and I tool my time.
It took me about an hour to do the whole thing because I'd have to
touch some spots up and when you do one spot, it's a good idea to
remelt the solder all around.
Fingers crossed.
