I am tackling the clutch in the 86 5ktq this weekend and have started the
disassembly process. A few issues have surfaced so far.
1. Haynes talks about disconnecting the selector linkage from the rear of
the gearbox. I can not see what the heck they are talking about! And
assuming I did see it, my hands just aren't that small. Is this done after
the tranny is partly lowered or what?
2. What's this bit about removing the air cleaner and exhaust pipe at the
manifold? The exhaust pipe is well clear of the tranny? Am I missing
something? What about the air cleaner?
3. Is it really necessary to remove the rear subframe mounting bolts?
What's the point?
It just seems to me that they are adding some steps that don't need to be
done. Any illumination from the group is very very welcome. I am trying to
get as much preliminary stuff done tonight as possible and Tihol and I are
going to do the actual tranny removal tomorrow.
TIA
Stephane
