Yes, the white wire is the +12V for the rear window defroster. When you
turn on the rear defrost switch, does the instrument cluster defrost indicator
light up? (You need the ignition to be on for this) If so then your switch
is getting power and making good contact. The fault would be a break in that
white wire somewhere.
If the defrost indicator light does not light up, then check fuse S15,
and the white/yellow wire that goes from that fuse location to the
defrost switch, as well as the switch itself.
The defrost heating element is grounded on the other end via a black wire to
the rear shelf.
