Not just deer: A very black Black Angus (i.e. a 1000-1500lbs bull) (on a
black road and a dark night) waited for my wife at the end of a single-lane
bridge. With a final speed of about 45 mph, she hit it on the side; it
rolled over the hood, broke (but did not get through the lamination of) the
windshield, rolled off the A-pillar, and took the driver's side mirror with
it. No injuries (apart from one broken cow leg/hip). Damaged parts: bumper,
headlight bracket, hood, fender, windshield, mirror. Though the officer on
the scene thought it probably couldn't, the car could be driven home
(though with the cracks in and manure on the windshield making for poor
visibility). Amazingly, the A-pillar etc. were measured to be utterly
un-bent.
