Hey Dave, about the brake pedal sinking, that's a sure sign of either a
system leak or bad m/c. If it was a leak though, you'd notice the fluid
level would drop quickly. If it's the m/c, then it's ort of an internal
leak, so the fluid level wouldn't change very often. M/C's for this car
should be around $100 and are pretty easy to change. There are many good
places to buy OE Audi parts not from the dealer:

make sure you have the right calipers, and you haven't swapped or lost
anything.

Audi sells this line off of a roll, so the fittings have to be put on. It
looks like they use 4.75 mm OD x .7mm wall tubing and each length should be
255 mm. I think the tubing is painted galvanized steel, but whatever it is,
it's very strong and last a long time. I'd try to get something very close.
I would stay away from using high copper content tubing cuz of the work
hardening and lower strength. Steel is very good, but rusts, so some kind
of coating would be good or even better would be stainless steel, but
probably expensive.
the brakes on these Audi's are very good when working properly, I think you
will see a big difference after tuning up this important part of your car.
good luck to ya.
