I had exactly the same thing on my 88 80Q -- resistor helped for a couple of
days then had to replace the blower

Tom,

I believe this is a common problem which I have suffered. It's actually to
do with the blower motor pulling more current than the resistor was designed
for (or something like that). There is a TSB on this and the fix is to
replace the blower motor with a newer version.

I think this was supposed to have been solved with cars 1990 and older.
Perhaps an older blower fan slipped by in your car?

Hey All, Haven't posted to the list in a while- the Audi gods have been
fairly good to me so far...knock, knock. The problem is with the interior
heater/AC blower fan. I t only works on the 4th/highest setting. I did my
due diligent research in the archives an came up with the resistor. I
bought the part and successfully changed it out and it fixed the problem-
for about 2 weeks. I think the switch is ok, but I'm wondering if there is
anything else- fuse or relay, that may be causing causing the problem. Any
suggestions would be very much appreciated.
