87 5000 CS cold starts

My 1987 Audi 5000 CS quattro has been an exceptional durable car, and has a=
lways started with the first or second crank revolutions.  Last winter, how=
ever, if I did not catch the start, the engine would get overloaded with fu=
el, spark plugs would get wet, and it would not start until I pulled and re=
placed the plugs.

Had everything check and finally replaced the coil with one from the salvag=
e yard thinking  that spark was perhaps not hot enough.  It solved the prob=
lem for the rest of the winter.  I am just beginning to get the same subtle=
 symptoms again, and curious if someone else has had this problem and what =
they did to cure it.
