I didn't want to give up my email address (too much trouble
to change all my subscriptions), so I came up with a simpler
plan.  I created a new folded called "filtered" into which
I had my email program (Eudora, but other's should support
filters) transfer mail from friends and other known addresses.
The stuff left in the top level mailbox was usually (but not
always) trash.  It simplified deleting the stuff.
