I have recently replaced my alternator for the 3rd time this year on my '90
100 (being a cheapskate I employ used ones which I note are invariably
labeled "rebuilt") Yesterday after stopping for gas I couldn't restart (check
light is dead) So I got a quick charge and drove it home. I tightened the
belt and charges the battery. After that the volt meter gauge read about 13
volts. This evening after work I notice it is reading 12 and doesn't vary. It
is now on the shy side of 12. Loose belts, meaning less than max tension,
have been a problem. However, there is no tell tale belt squeal. Is there
something I am missing. The last time an alternator went, I charged the
battery with the cables connected. My radio hasn't worked since, no power
getting to it.
