euro T44 climate control, conversion?

Not quite true.  However, in Europe only the higher trim models got the
GM climate control whereas the lower end models got the manual system.
In the US most type 44s came with the GM climate control, except the
1989-1990 Audi 100E (a low-trim model with steel wheels, etc).
