couple questions about owning S4/S6 '92-95

I am thinking about buying another car as my wife agreed to drive one of
my 200tq and to depart with her Boneville.

1)  Bentley does not exist for this cars. It scary!  Any good new for me
about it?
2)  Can I manualy pull out ECU error codes?  Or $$$$ VAG tool is only
resort?
