Hi Cade,
What you're describing is a characteristic of the K26 turbo. No boost
below 3000 rpm combined with the low compression ratio of 7.8:1
combines
for soft initial acceleration. If this bothers you greatly, locate a
K24
turbo. Its a straight bolt on. You'll need a chip to go with it, but
you'll get great acceleration starting at 1900 rpm. The trade off is a
slight loss (about 2-5 MPG) of fuel economy and a drop off of boost at
the
high end if you track the car. This is the so called heat soak
phenomena. I myself don't notice this, but then I seldom race my car.
