I think it's official now, there was a definte bad run of fuel (and
water) OEM style pumps.  I've been through no less than 3 fuel pumps in
the last two years, two for noise and one for pressure.  Luckily all
warrantied, and really easy to change on the Avant.  The last one put in
about 4 months ago, Bosch made in Germany, quiet as a church mouse.
Water pumps, one started leaking after a year, the replacement started
squeeling like a banshee in 4 months.  Replacement is about a year old
now with no problems.

I think the bad run has worked it's way through the system.......
