I must say that I'm totally blown away by the number of responses. Weekends
don't normally get the number of responses a weekday post gets.
This list (meaning all its members) is the greatest!
I would thank you all individually but there are just too many, and you know
who you are. Thank all of you!
For my money it was the prayer bones workout that brought everything into a
cooperative spirit. That followed by employing most if not all the
suggestions short of cutting & welding which I didn't have to do.
Probably the most critical tool for this operation is PB Blaster or
equivalent penetrating oil used liberally in advance.
The subframe swap did get the oil pan off the subframe, but didn't eliminate
the "clunk when reversing while turning". I compared the 2 frames side by
side and even 1 on top of the other, and found no noticeable (visible to the
naked eye) deformation in my original. I used both tranny mounts from my
original so I'm baffled how the motor position is changed. Oh well.
I have now replaced all the wear parts on the front end. A pro wrench friend
thinks the clunk is a spring moving on its perch.
Point of info: 4kq subframe is a direct swap for 83 URQ with the exception
that the sway bar attaches with 2 bolts (not 1 bolt and a "hook" clip) so you
will need the 4kq bar brackets. The sway bar is identical as well.
Thanks again to all!
Dennis
