Your Coupe GT rear wiper is operated by pushing the wiper arm forwards to the front of the car. On the early models (Mine is a 1985 Coupe Quattro) the wiper would only wipe once. On later models 1986 on I believe the wiper continues to operate intermittently wiping every 6 second or so. To switch it off you push the control again forwards and it switches it off.
I guess yours should have an intermittent wipe. My son has an 86GT
There is a seperate relay. (The front wiper relay is in the relay/fuse box in the engine compartment) The rear relay is under the dash on the passenger side on a board below the fuse/ relay box. .
Huw Powell's excelent site has references to all the needed relay numbers.
You are looking for a relay number 171 955 529 = for single rear wipe
or for intermittent rear wipe relay number = 191 955 529
Audi main dealers want around £30 for this part. Breakers a lot less and they are about still..
I have taken single wipe relay out and replaced with intermittent.
Hope This helps.
The wiring diagram in our English Haynes manual did not help us much when we tried to sort out where the relay was. We have two coupe's and we traced it down on the 86GT by operating and listening.
Try the wipe arm, search for the relay check which one you have and then check the wiring diagram.
I'll draw it and post if you need.

Where is the relay for the rear window wiper, behind the instrument
cluster? Is there supposed to be a switch that operates the rear window
wiper, or does it just turn on when the front ones are on?
The reason I ask is because I am trying to troubleshoot why my rear
wiper isn't working. I checked the voltage at the connector and I am
getting 13.45V from Bk/Bl to Bn, and 0V from Bk/Gr to Br at the base of
the wiper motor. However when I try to check the voltage across the two
electrical connections on the motor itself, there is no reading.
Also there seems to be a resistor or diode of some sort soldered across
the connections on the motor. Is it supposed to be like that?
TIA
