2.8L V6 timing belt tool compatibility

For those listers in the know, how far forward
compatible are the timing belt tools for a '92 Audi
100 with the 2.8L V6?  I have the tools, but I'm
wondering if they are also valid for the current
2.8L V6 found in the latest VW Passat.

My father is considering a 2002/2003 Passat for his
next car, and it's an added bonus if the same tools
work.  Unfortunately, the 2.5L TDI diesel from
Europe isn't available here in the US, yet.  We tend
to
hang onto our cars for a while :)
