Another 1 bites the dust; Was: Bosch fuel pump death

I brought 4 FPRs with me and before I changed the pump
I tried them all. No change. Replaced the pump on
Sunday morning in the Army parking lot right where I
finally died. Brought 3 OE German Bosch pumps: 85 5kt
(185k), 89 200q (185k) and one from a junkyard (age
and mileage unknown). The last one "looked" the best
(nice shiny aluminum shell and nice shiny, new looking
terminals, nuts and washers. My 2 that I had replaced
looked kind of tired. The terminals had a dull, olive
drab tint to them. The alloy shells were no longer
shiny. I dipped each in gas and tested them for 5
seconds with jumper wires from a battery my buddy
conviently had in his trunk. The nice shiny one
sounded great- zoomed right up to max. rpm and just
screamed. The other 2 revved up slower, had a lower
peak rpm and were much noiser. After replacing the
Czech bastard I tried the same test. Sounded
horrible. Like there were little bits of copper wire
flying around in side there. So far "shiny" is super
quiet. 1/4 of the way through second tankful, about
600 miles. Gas from different stations. I think I'll
still check for that pre-delivery screen anyway. BTW,
no debris in my tank at all. Still shiny on the
inside. A really little bit of sand in the very
bottom right under the pickup screen. Also 2 human?
hairs on/in the pickup screen. About the size of a
whisker or a nose hair. Really weird.

Thanks
Jim Accordino
