But Huw is absolutely right!  Enter the most you'd be willing to pay,
and because other people don't follow this advice, it's best to do it
within the last few seconds.

There's nice software that does this for you - I've used "bidwatcher"
under Linux, although there may be other packages.  Ebay seems not to
like people who do this, but I haven't heard them give a good reason.
The upshot that they occasionally change their site to break bidding
assistants, so you'll need to make sure you get a recent version, and
buy a few test items with it.  And if you really care about winning a
certain bid, it might be best to bid manually.
