Hi David:

Each year I hit up a few Brazilian classic car events ( usually drive and
enter a friends 1940 Ford Convertible ). There are plenty of DKW's at
the events, and in the vendor areas there are hundreds of parts for
sale, new and used. That's where I got the "Auto Union" chrome emblem I
have scanned on my web page (cost me U$3.00.) I am more of a Mercyless
Benz and Packard gawker at these events, but if there is anything in
particular that you or your cohorts in DKW land find to be unobtainium
here, I can keep an eye out for it the next time I'm down there. Last
thing I picked up for a friend was an OEM Porsche "in the spare" toolbox,
was expensive, but worth it to him.

The classic car events have taken a turn for the worse in Brazil lately,
as they are now charging a fee to display cars. Many veteran owners have
stopped taking their cars, before you'd get a nice plaque, and a
fraternal lunch and dinner invitation for entering a car. Now you get a
bill.

Many a daily driver DKW too, but if you REALLY want to experience
something automotively surreal, a trip to Uruguay should be on the
agenda. To start with, Montevideos public transit system is made up of
late 1940's and mid 50's Leyland buses, and they're some of the newest
Euro hardware you're likely to see on the street. There's even one local
who zips around town in a '30s vintage Bugatti, straight pipes and all.
