I hope the other guy didn't have Allstate ins.!
My mom was stopped, waiting to turn left when she was read-ended by a
guy going 45 in a 30 zone in a minivan... ended up totalling our '97
saab 9000. He had Allstate, which tried to royall screw us in the
settlement. They started out by not wanting to pay the value of the
car, claiming the MN no-fault laws. Once that was put straight, they
said they couldn't find any '87 9k's to price compare to, for the value
estimage... so they compared to a '87 900!! A quick call to the state
insurance comission fixed this... but then they still managed to come up
with a price about $2k lower than realistic. We picked a court date,
and sued them for it. (at this point it was about 3 months after the
accident). The judge decided in our favor, and the case was settled
"with prejudice" (no appeals available). Then, they wouldn't send the
check via courier... we had to go in to their office and pick it up
(which meant taking time off work for my dad...). Throughout this whole
procedure, the people at allstate acted like jerks & a**holes.
So: I hope everything goes smoothly for you, and a warning for anyone
shopping for car insurance!

Having narrowly escaped injury in the 31 year old Nissan product, I believe I'll put more faith in German iron nex time. Audi is my natural inclination @ the present time... but there are so many factors involved here:
