advice needed on PS pump rebuild - '91 2.3 (NG) CQ

Javad,
Thanks for the advice - and to everyone else that replied - I picked-up the
repair kit yesterday and disassembled the pump only to discover that the
repair kit didn't match the pump!!! Closer inspection of the Bentley
revealed that the Vickers pumps, as I have, are not repairable, unlike the
ZF, which is presumably what the repair kit I have is intended for!
There didn't seem to be any damage to the pump housing and fortunately one
of the replacement o-ring seals had a similar section compared with the old
blown one, albeit slightly longer, so I cut & rejoined it to the correct
length, reassembled everything, topped-off the oil and fired it up: so far
it seems to be OK, although I need to get the old oil off the rest of the
engine before I run it much more, but there was no sign of leakage after
sustained 3000rpm+ and energetic lock-to-lock steering so hopefully that's
it sorted.
thanks again,
Ewan.

Ewan, I'm not positive about this, but it sounds like you might have
more than a seal problem, your housing could have been tweeked - in
which case, no seal will help. With the pump off the car and
dissasembled ensure that both halves of the housing are still true,
other wise it might be worth just getting a good used one and being done
with it.

Hi,
My head gasket was recently replaced and, after reassembly, the pivot
bolt
on the top left (looking from the front) of the PS pump wasn't fully
tightened and the nut came off. The result is that the seal between the
two
halfs of the pump has blown and emptied what looks like most of the
fluid
into the engine compartment. I've ordered a seal kit and am hoping to
fix it
on Monday. Any BTDTs I should be aware of.
TIA,
