FW: Bored engine in Rally car?

Totally inexperienced wild a$$ suppositional flame bait here...

I like to modify vehicles, and there are lots of things that I am willing to
do, sometimes because the engineering doesn't matter, and sometimes because
I think I can do it better than the engineer who designed it.

However, when it comes to the bore and stroke of engines, I am willing to
accept that the engineers who came up with the specs for the I5 knew their
stuff and found the BEST balance between performance and longevity. So if
you change the bore/stroke aspect, you will gain in 1 area and lose in the
other. Another good example (besides the I5) is the droF 302 V8.
Absolutely bullet proof in stock configuration - especially the older
versions. I know - I've had a few in my younger wilder days and could not
kill them, despite my youthful enthusiasm and lack of maintenance.
Since joining the Audi fold, I am very impressed with the longevity of some
listers' I5's, and as you mention, you don't hear of too many people messing
with the basic block.

Just MVHO

Stephane
