C4 Chassis Climate Control Troubleshooting

Our '95 A6q Avant climate control is acting up. Problems are to do with air=
 not coming out appropriate vents (was stuck on center, now no center but d=
ef and foot work fine). I have a Bentley on CD and print out from the 12v.o=
rg pages to pull codes from the climate control system and realize that is =
the appropriate starting point. However, I am seeking some BTDT advice from=
 others who have worked on the C4 climate control system (I have a lot of t=
ype 44 experience to draw on, but the C4 is new to me). Are the vent flap "=
motors" in the C4 CC really motors instead of vacuum actuators? (In the ele=
ctrical diagrams it would appear so.) Given the intermittent and strange be=
haivure I would jump into resoldering the programmer box on a type 44, but =
am unsure where to turn on the C4. I have read posts on Audiworld of dealer=
s changing flap motors, but also wonder if maybe there is more to it than t=
hat (like cracked solder in a driver black box someplace). Any BTDT experie=
nce on C4 CC troubleshooting will be greatly appreceated! TIA!
