I am curretly refilling the lube in the rear diff of
my 87 4kcsq.

My problem is that the diff is not accepting the right
amount of fluid.
Bently calls for 2.2 fl oz, 2.3 quarts or 4.6 pints,
all equal.
I drained the rear diff and even let the car sit level
for 25 min or so, no more old oil dripping out of the
drain hole.
Now I am refilling the diff with a hand pump and a
clear tube.
The diff took only about 2.5 pints and the fluid
started coming out of the fill plug.
I tilted the car with the fill plug side high and put
in about another pint and still there is lube flowing
out of the fill hole.

I realize there might be still some fluid stuck to the
inside of the diff but it can't be more than a full
pint, and the bently # is probably bone dry.
Is the fill level suposed to reach higher than the
bottom of the fill hole?
Upon the same procedure with a toyota celica, the
manual said the diff was full when you could reach in
and touch lune 1/2 inch down or so.

I could measure how much fluid came out but given the
fact that it may have been stock (112k mi) and there
are signs of leakage at the bearing seals this amount
cannot be used to calculate what would have been left
inside.

Maybe there is some heavy buildup in the diff??
Is it possible to take up a whole pint of fluid?

OR

Do I just have to wait for the fluid to settle because
it is so viscus? (89w90).
Wait 5 to 10 minutes between adding a pint?

TIA
