Type 44 Jorgen Rack failure

Well - the Jorgen rack that was installed in the '87 5000 tqa was
defective from the getgo. It had been presumed by the person who
installed it that he did not tighten a fitting properly, then myself
who saw the problem as a trickle with an occasional spurt. The car is
now owned by Sean Shoemaker - about one year later - and it just failed
catastrophically when we were taking a long trip to FLA from MD.
Jorgen is sending another rack, but at no real discount. Hope this one
is good. Sean better get his money back, because this rebuild was shot
from the outset.

How many of you whom have replaced their type 44 steering rack with a
Jorgen unit have experienced a leakage failure?
Just curious.

I put a Jorgen rack in a friends '87 5K. I lasted 2 weeks; the boot
filled with pentosin. I contacted them; they sent me another rack. I
was told at that time they would pay me $90. labor to change it out.
They charged the second rack to my credit card. I sent the defective
rack to them...I received a letter 2 weeks later stating: they found
nothing wrong with the first rack... yea right..I suppose in their
eyes the boot was intended to fill with oil.:>) They credited my card
for the first rack, except for the shipping charges. They refused to
pay me any labor for doing the job twice. I won't be using their
services again. Brian]
