Phil,
26-28 highway is about what I'd expect, but I have not seen this, even
when feather footing the gas. Perhaps there is something that needs to
be addressed. I have not ran any extensive diags. on the car, yet. I
did replace the thermostat as recommended by several. That did make a
slight improvement, but could be within statistical deviation, and also
coincide with warmer temps and/or change in fuel.
The best mileage I have seen on the car was when I drove it home from
NY to MD. One of the coldest days this year, but the car had had
plenty of time to warm up. I was getting right around 20 mpg.
I guess I need to do more checking, and get a hold of a VAG/COM unit -
definately would want to do this myself, as the time I can't
troubleshoot and repair a car myself is the time I would not want to
own that type of car. I am still learning the ways of Motronic, but
have felt that it should do better than this. Apparently your car gets
closer to what I'd expect.
Although I may have access to a ROSS VAG/COM system, isn't there a way
to perform most of the system checks without special equipment, similar
to the earlier MAC-11 and similar ECU?
Ben
