My has a bolt, torqued to 150lbs. there is no clip and only way to take
joint off is by puling. This car has over 200k miles and I actually ended up
pulling the inner cv out of the lock ring.... then I just went smashing. Im
just gonna get a new axle and sell my cv joint.

an '88 90Q may very well have a setup like the 4kq - no bolts, just big
nuts on the ends of the CV joints. in which case you do have to use a
bit of force... although there might have been a circlip or something to
remove to make it possible.
