AC Pump-Valve has one valve stuck open

My 1997 A8Q blows maximum hot air on the passenger side when the AC or econ=
 is on.  The problem, as diagnosed by the Audi dealer, is a stuck valve for=
 the passenger side on the pump (dual) valve unit that supplies hot water t=
o the heater cores. The dealer will install a new unit to resolve the issue=
 for $1350.  Has anyone out there disassembled and repaired a stuck valve?
