I have given up the idea of repairing the sound system in my car. The Gamma
head unit is way too lame and even if it could be made to function properly
I want a CD player in the dash. I have found a JVC unit that won't look too
out of place in the car and a matching CD changer for the trunk. The next
step is the speakers. I have a lead on some very nice Infinity 2-ways that
sound great, but without opening up the rear door panels I'm unsure what
size I need and whether or not they will fit correctly. I'm hoping that
someone on the list has BTDT and can offer advice.
Will standard 5.25" speakers fit the rear doors without a lot of
modification? I assume that the rear door tweeters will be non-functional
after the upgrade. The Infinities have them integrated so I don't really
need the factory ones anyway and I certainly won't go to the bother/expense
of adding a crossover.
Will standard 4" speakers fit the dash without a lot of modification?
Both sizes of Infinity seem relatively shallow (under 2.5") so that doesn't
worry me. I'm more concerned about making them fit without major
modifications to the doors or the dash and having them look right. I'm
getting the speakers at bargain prices but I cannot return them if there are
problems with the fit. Hence my concern.
Is there any residual value in the system I am removing? I don't expect that
I could sell it for much so perhaps I should hang on to it in case I want to
return to original equipment some day.
Another question: The power antenna finally died this winter. I plan to
replace it with one of those flexible, rubber ones. Are there any issues I
should be aware of? Recommendations?
Thanks for any and all help.
