The fix depends upon the problem. Common problems are that the spring end
breaks, which can be fixed either by bending a new end and stretching
slightly or replacing with a new spring, and the spring cuts through the
plastic bar it's supposed to mount to. The latter is the more common
problem. I've fixed two by fashioning a small piece of tin into a "U"
shape to fit over the bar and drilling a hole through the two the two
resulting flaps to connect the spring end. I'm a short, fat guy with big
short, thick arms, so I've had to "clear a path" to get to the flap by
removing the glove boxes and surrounding trim pieces. Lankier folks can do
these repairs without as much clearance.
