pulling fault codes on a UK model '91 CQ (10v NG) - how?

I don't seem to have any of the diagnostic plugs shown in the Bentley and I
don't get any engine warning flashes doing the drive for 5 mins, insert fuse
in FPR for 4 seconds and remove routine.  There is a rectangular port maybe
an inch or two by 3/4 inch with a 4-pin red male connector just inside
although it only has the rightmost two pins populated. Can't see anything on
the passenger side.
Any ideas?
