Perhaps the slipping belt is polishing the pulley clear??  So that you wouldn't find "skid marks" from the belt but a shiny finish on the pulley?

Over weekend I confirmed that sound comes from alternator.   There are no signes of belt movement on the pulley (rubber marks) and no wear on the belt.
