Any check engine lights? My first suspicion would be an minor airflow
problem. Either a leak or sensor.
First thing to check would be the intake hose on the bottom side. I got
symptoms like that on my '94 100 when I had an air gap on the that hose
near the fitting. I happened to find it by accident when feeling the
hose. It's simple to check with a mirror.
Second, there is an elbow on the vacuum lines near the driver side front
of the engine. It is very close to the cam shaft belt cover which has a
sharp edge. I read something about a leak in the vacuum system can cause
problems near idle, but I'm ignorant of the vacuum system so I can't speak
from experience. Look to see if that elbow is rubbing at the bottom,
especially if it has been replaced with OEM hoses.
Next would be the Mass airflow sensor. Possibly an obstruction. There
should be a simple test. I don't remember offhand
Idle Air Control Valve inside the intake. Can be contaminated.
Finally, a faulty coolant sensor could give you a funky mix...
