Yeah Huw your probably on to something there! ;-)  I should just buy a
case.

 I can vouch that the Audis use the same filter, but I just bought the
VW this week and it has a remote oil filter/cooler setup and may use
something different. Haven't checked p/n's yet, but will soon. Perhaps I
should carry my own inventory.  The only problem is that makes me the
monkey lad behind the counter! :-)
